US Città di Palermo have signed Italy's second-choice goalkeeper Marco Amelia from relegated AS Livorno Calcio for a reported fee of €6m.
Four-year deal
The 26-year-old, who is acting as deputy to Gianluigi Buffon at UEFA EURO 2008™, has signed a four-year contract with the Sicilian side. "Palermo have been trying to sign me for over a year and finally the deal has been done," Amelia told Palermo's website. "As soon as I heard that the two clubs had reached an agreement, I didn't think twice about signing for an ambitious club like Palermo." Amelia, a product of AS Roma's youth system, joined Livorno from Parma FC in 2004. He played 33 top-flight games in 2007/08 but failed to help his side avoid relegation to Serie B.
