First XI
Sweden held their last training session in Lugano on Sunday ahead of their departure for Salzburg, where they will meet the reigning European champions in their opening Group D game on Tuesday. While the coach was giving nothing away, he confirmed that he had already decided on his preferred lineup. "Unless something happens in training, we have the starting XI ready for 10 June," said Lagerbäck after training at the Centro Sportivo Cornaredo.
Warning flag
While his team remains top-secret, Ibrahimović is sure to be in it, even if the FC Internazionale Milano player raised a warning flag about his fitness as he continues to rebuild after a knee injury. He said: "I hadn't played for a very long time prior to the last league match with Inter [where he scored twice in a 2-0 win against Parma FC]. I don't know if I can play for 90 minutes, but I feel ready. We'll see how long I last." Lagerbäck is well aware of his star striker's condition, but is not too concerned. "He's completed the majority of the training sessions," he said. "We'll start with Zlatan. He's the kind of player who doesn't lose his ability just because he's been away for a while. He also has great genes physically - he has a lot to thank his parents for."
Physical game
Certainly, Sweden have reason to be glad Ibrahimović grew so tall. He is a commanding presence on the field and expects to have to throw his 94kg weight around against Greece. "The Greek defenders are physically strong," said Ibrahimović. "They're as tall and as solid as me. I've played against [Traianos] Dellas before - he's a really good defender. It'll be tough, with both teams starting out playing tight and cautious. After that we'll see who gets the first goal. That will decide it all." Reports in Greece suggest that Eintracht Frankfurt's Sotiris Kyrgiakos will face the unenviable task of man-marking Ibrahimović. At 1.93m, he is a centimetre shorter than the Swede, and three shorter than central defensive partner Dellas, but Lagerbäck was not convinced Otto Rehhagel would choose a one-on-one approach. "I don't think they'll assign a particular player to mark Zlatan. If they were to do so, the positive part for us would be that our other players get more space."
