Degen to go under the knife

Switzerland right-back Philipp Degen will undergo surgery early next week in Biel after damaging ligaments in his left ankle during the UEFA EURO 2008™ co-host's 1-0 friendly defeat by Nigeria last Tuesday.

Minor operation
The 24-year-old BV Borussia Dortmund player will also take the opportunity to have a minor operation on his adductor, a procedure he has been putting off, having sustained the injury early in the fixture at the Letzigrund Stadium. Degen, in his third season in German football, has played eight Bundesliga games for Dortmund this season. His club do not know when he will return.
