Exiles return
Barton, 24, who has long been touted as a possible inclusion, is joined in the party by a number of returnees. Middlesbrough FC defender Jonathan Woodgate is back after three years away while Aston Villa FC captain Gareth Barry is recalled after a four-year exile.

Barton's selection has been welcomed by his Manchester City colleague Micah Richards, who could win a second cap after facing the Netherlands in November. "Joey deserves it, his performances this season have shown what he can do," said Richards. Chelsea FC and England captain John Terry is named despite a lack of playing time since undergoing back surgery. Also available after a spell on the sidelines is midfielder Owen Hargreaves.
