Welsh grandfather
The 23-year-old, who scored eleven goals for Southend in the English second tier this season, qualifies to play for John Toshack's side thanks to a Welsh-born grandfather. Barnsley FC striker Daniel Nardello and Wolverhampton Wanderers FC goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey also receive first call-ups in the 25-man squad along with two teenage full-backs - Cardiff City FC's Chris Gunter and Oldham Athletic FC's Neil Eardley. Wales will play New Zealand in a friendly game in Wrexham on 26 May before meeting the Czechs in Cardiff. Wales lie fifth in qualifying Group D, with two wins and three defeats in their five games to date.
