World champions Italy have appointed Roberto Donadoni as their new coach within 24 hours of Marcello Lippi announcing his decision to leave the post. The former Italian international will lead the Azzurri in the qualification campaign for UEFA EURO 2008™.
Glittering career
Donadoni, 42, was without a club after being sacked by AS Livorno Calcio in the middle of last season. As a player, Donadoni won five Italian championships and three European Champion Clubs' Cups with AC Milan after making his Serie A debut with Atalanta BC. He also represented the Azzurri on 63 occasions, scoring five goals, including at the 1990 and 1994 FIFA World Cups. He will be unveiled at a press conference in Rome next Tuesday.
