Half-century of caps
The Celtic FC striker has decided to bow out and concentrate on his club career, having gained his 51st cap in the friendly against Cyprus last November. He scored a total of 14 goals, more than any other player in the squad, and would have added to that tally had injuries not restricted his availability in recent seasons.

'Sad day'
The 30-year-old said: "It is a sad day for me because I have loved playing for my country and representing the Welsh people. I always feel enormous pride whenever I put on a Wales shirt and will cherish the memories of my time with the national team."

Team captain
The former Arsenal FC and West Ham United FC forward, known for his robust style and aerial prowess, made his debut against Bulgaria in 1995. The high point of his international career came last August when he was named captain as his home city Swansea hosted a friendly with Slovenia.

Toshack blow
The news is another blow to Wales manager John Toshack as he prepares for the UEFA EURO 2008™ qualifiers, with experienced campaigners like Gary Speed, Andy Melville and Mark Crossley having already retired from international football following the failure to reach this summer's FIFA World Cup. Wales are in UEFA EURO 2008™ qualifying Group D, with Cyprus, Czech Republic, Germany, Republic of Ireland, San Marino and Slovakia.
