Article body
Luca Toni will miss ACF Fiorentina's final push for a UEFA Cup spot and, more than likely, Italy's UEFA EURO 2008™ qualifiers in the Faroe Islands and Lithuania after deciding to have surgery on his injured left foot.
Impressive haul
Toni, who turns 30 next week, may not have hit the heights of last season when he struck 31 Serie A goals last term, but another impressive haul of 16 goals in 29 league games has left Fiorentina in fifth place and on the cusp of UEFA Cup qualification despite starting the campaign with a 15-point deduction. Toni also has a fine record for Italy, scoring 12 goals in 27 internationals including two in their FIFA World Cup success last summer, but will seemingly be unable to add to that tally as the Azzurri look to close in on three teams above them in Group B - Ukraine, Scotland and France - by winning their qualifiers on 2 and 6 June.
