Coach resigns
Szabolcs Huszti had put Hungary, beaten 4-1 at home by Norway on Saturday, in front from the penalty spot on 36 minutes before Emir Spahić was sent off three minutes later. Buoyed by their numerical advantage, Hungary scored twice in the first four minutes of the second half through Zoltán Gera and Pál Dárdai. Zvjezdan Misimović's 64th-minute strike was barely a consolation for the hosts and not enough to save the job of Blaž Sliškovic, who resigned as coach after the final whistle.
Dárdai converts
Hungary set the tone from the start with a series of quick counterattacks and almost broke through on 17 minutes when Dárdai went close, while five minutes later Huszti hit the post from 25 metres. Minutes later he found the target from the spot, having been brought down by Spahić, who was promptly booked, before calmly converting.
Spahić dismissed
Bosnia-Herzegovnian pain was compounded minutes later when Spahić was dismissed after failing to retreat for a free-kick. A fiery first half concluded with Dárdai lobbing over while Elvir Bolić fired wide at the other end. The second half began in similar style with Hungary doubling their advantage within a minute, Gera heading home from Huszti's corner. Three minutes later the victory was sealed as Dárdai dispossessed Dušan Kerkez before outwitting Kenan Hasagić in a one-on-one situation.
Consolation
Bosnia-Herzegovina reduced the deficit when Misimović slotted in a penalty after Balazs Molnár had handled. But there was no way back for the home side, and Huszti nearly stretched the visitors' lead when rattling the woodwork. Hungary will hope to continue their revival at home to Turkey on 7 October, while Bosnia-Herzegovina will regroup under a new coach ahead of the trip to Moldova the same day.
