Morale boost
France, held to successive goalless draws by the Netherlands and Brazil, were keen to record a convincing victory to lift morale two weeks before starting the defence of their European title in Portugal.
Early domination
The European champions dominated the game from the start, but had to wait until the stroke of half-time for Wiltord to open the scoring with a fine volley from just inside the penalty area.
Fine performance
Wiltord doubled France’s lead when he slotted home a cross from defender William Gallas from close range and the Arsenal FC player rounded off a fine individual performance by setting up fellow striker Louis Saha for the third goal.
Unbeaten run
Olympique de Marseille forward Steve Marlet completed the scoring with 16 minutes remaining to leave France, who are now unbeaten in 17 matches and have gone a remarkable 950 minutes without conceding a goal, ready to face Ukraine in Paris next week in their last match before EURO 2004™.
