RFEF president Ángel María Villar had no option but to accept the resignations of three of the federation's highest-ranking officials - Fernando Sequeira, Argimiro Vázquez and Juan José Zornoza, just two weeks after he took the surprise decision to sack RFEF general secretary Gerardo González Otero.
Reason for leaving
The three men, who had been expected to stand down in the summer, cited a "lack of confidence" shown in their work as a reason for leaving. They are understood to have been frustrated by an inability to implement sanctions against players and clubs. Sequeira told a press conference: "The best thing we can do is to leave our posts so that our replacements can make a better job of things than we have done."
Carry on regardless
Villar was informed of the development by a phone call to Mallorca, where RFEF officials are meeting ahead of tomorrow night's international friendly between Spain and Germany. He subsequently appointed Lorenzo Pérez, Alfredo Flores and Alberto Alonso to form a new Comité de Competición. RFEF vice-president Juan Padrón insisted the federation's work would be unaffected by the changes.
