Always on top
In front of 26,000 fans in Ankara, Turkey never looked in trouble. Such was their comfort in the match, home coach Senol Günes was able to make several changes including two goalkeeping substitutions. The only surprise was that it took the home side 30 minutes to break the deadlock. Real Sociedad de Fútbol forward Nihat Kahveci finally opened the scoring, turning the Moldovan defence before firing a low drive into the corner of the net.
Midfield strength
Moldova tried their best to get into the game, especially in the form of midfield men Vadim Boret and Stanislav Ivanov. However, they failed to create any real opportunities for their team.
Tuncay skill
Fenerbahçe SK youngster Tuncay Sanli, a summer star as Turkey secured third place at the FIFA Confederations Cup in June, made his side's second in the 55th minute. He weaved deep into the Moldovan penalty area before laying the ball off to Okan Yilmaz for the easiest of tap-ins.
English test
Turkey are next in action on 6 September when they travel to Group 7's bottom side Liechtenstein. Günes's men lead the section with 15 points from six matches, while second-placed England - who they face in Istanbul on 11 October - are two-points adrift with a game in hand.
