The 56-year-old has been in the job since July 2002 and has been rewarded for successfully guiding the national team to the UEFA EURO 2004™ final round. The contract also takes in the World Cup finals in two years' time, should the Dutch qualify.
Important time
Advocaat said he hoped to continue working with assistant coach Willem van Hanegem, who is negotiating separately with the Royal Netherlands Football Association (KNVB) over his future. "The KNVB is very satisfied with Dick Advocaat," said KNVB director Henk Kesler. "The coming months are very important so I am very glad that we are clear about the future."
