The AEK Athens striker, born in the city of Thrace, netted the opener after 19 minutes. Gheorghe Ongararu put Romania, led by former Greek coach Anghel Iordenescu, back on level terms eight minutes after the break, but Stelios Yiannakopulos restored the lead four minutes later.
