Greece edge out Romania

Local boy Demis Nikolaidis scored as Greece beat Romania 3-2 in a friendly in the National Stadium in Alexandropolis today.

Nikolaidis opener
The AEK Athens striker, born in the city of Thrace, netted the opener after 19 minutes. Gheorghe Ongararu put Romania, led by former Greek coach Anghel Iordenescu, back on level terms eight minutes after the break, but Stelios Yiannakopulos restored the lead four minutes later.

Decisive strike
Pantelis Konstantinidis added a third for Greece with 17 minutes to go, although Ciprian Tanasa hit an 85th-minute consolation for the visitors.
