Austria 2-0 Slovakia
Hans Krankl enjoyed a successful baptism as Austria's new coach on Wednesday when his team full of debutants beat Slovakia 2-0 in an international friendly at the Arnold Schwarzenegger stadium in Graz.
Brunmayr goal
Ronald Brunmayr gave Austria the lead with his first international goal in the 64th minute, just seven minutes after coming on as a substitute.
"Great to enjoy a win"
Fellow substitute Markus Weissenberger scored Austria's second, firing home in the 78th minute. "This is the first international match with a new team, so naturally it's great to already enjoy a win," said Krankl, who scored the winner in Austria's shock 3-2 win over West Germany in the 1978 FIFA World Cup in Argentina.
"They never gave up"
"What impressed me is that they never gave up. They were nervous in the first half, no goal - but they just kept trying to make goals," the 49-year-old said.
