Players suspended
Dejan Stankovic of S.S. Lazio and FC Shakhtar Donetsk's Zvonimir Vukic were both booked in the 1-0 victory in Belgrade and will miss the 10 September fixture in the same city through suspension. With Sinisa Mihajlovic also completing a three-match ban for a sending-off in Finland, FK Partizan midfield player Igor Duljaj and RC Strasbourg forward Danijel Ljuboja will deputise.
Third place
The win against Wales lifted Serbia and Montenegro into third place in Group 9, but they are four points adrift of leaders Wales and two behind Italy, who have each played a game less. Petkovic's team will end their campaign with a match in Cardiff on 11 October.
'No reason to change'
The coach said of the Italy game: "I have no reason to change anything. We won last time out and we will use the same tactics - 3-5-2 is the best solution for us." While admitting that Italy have "brilliant players, a fantastic coach and strong play", Petkovic added: "We will win. It will be tough, but we have no other choice. Belgrade is like a fortress and our supporters will generate a good atmosphere."
