The new Millennium stand at Malta's National Stadium will be officially opened by the President of Malta, Professor Guido de Marco on 3 September before a special friendly game between a Malta XI and Italian side Internazionale FC.
'Dream come true'
Dr Joe Mifsud, president of the Malta Football Association, announced the news just before the start of the new Maltese Premier League season at the weekend. "It is a dream come true for the Association to have such a modern stand," he said. "This dream began in 1986."
Overall costs
The overall cost of the new stand, which takes the place of the old 'Valletta Side', was €8m and it can accommodate 5,200 seated spectators. MFA vice-president Ludovico Micallef, a qualified architect, was responsible for the project along with a firm of Scottish architects.
