Azerbaijan Under-21 coach Asker Abdullayev has been appointed as caretaker team chief of the senior national side after Vagif Sadygof's resignation.
Legal threat
Sadygov left the job last week, saying: "No appropriate working conditions were available." However, the Association of Football Federations of Azerbaijan have threatened to sue the coach over failing to stick to his contract obligations.
Assistant named
Abdullayev will have national team captain Tarlan Akhmadov as assistant coach. The temportary national coach himself is also assistant coach to Vagif Sadygov at FK Shafa.
Previous spell
In 2000, Abdullayev had a previous four-month spell as caretaker national coach, prior to Igor Ponomarev's appointment to replace Akhmed Aleskerov.
Welsh test
Azerbaijan are to play Wales in Baku for their next EURO 2004™ qualification match on 20 November, having lost their opening Group 9 fixtures against Italy and Finland.
