PZPN name qualifying venues

The Polish Football Federation has confirmed the venues for its next two UEFA EURO 2004™ qualifiers.

The Polish Football Federation (PZPN) has confirmed the venues for its next two UEFA EURO 2004™ qualifiers against Hungary and San Marino.

New announcement
A day after announcing Pawel Janas as their new national coach, the PZPN revealed that it had decided to take on Hungary on 29 March at the Stadion Slaski in Chorzow.

Silesian welcome
"I expect 50,000 fans to support our team, while we must win this match," said PZPN chairman Michal Listkiewicz. The Slaski is in Silesia, the southern part of Poland, and was modernised in the mid-1990s. Poland last played there in a FIFA World Cup qualifier, a 1-1 draw against Ukraine, in the autumn of 2001.

Ostrowiec beckons
Meanwhile, the PZPN announced that the 2 April game against San Marino will be played at the Ostrowiec Swietokrzyski, home of Ekstraklasa team KSZO Ostrowiec. This is one of the most modern Polish stadiums, with a capacity of 10,000. Poland won 2-0 at Ostrowiec Swietokrzyski against New Zealand 2-0 in a friendly in October this year.
