Article body
Glen Johnson has been named in the England squad to meet Denmark on Sunday after impressing for Chelsea FC this season.
Three strikers
The 18-year-old Johnson, an attacking right-back, is the only new name in a 23-man party which includes Scott Parker of Charlton Athletic FC. With Michael Owen injured, Sven-Göran Eriksson has selected just three strikers for the Old Trafford fixture - Wayne Rooney, Emile Heskey and Darius Vassell - meaning Southampton FC's James Beattie misses out.
Five injured
Paul Scholes, Owen Hargreaves, Kieron Dyer, Jonathan Woodgate and Sol Campbell were unavailable for selection due to injury, while Rio Ferdinand has been overlooked as he considers his response to being charged with misconduct for missing a drugs test in September.
Lisbon base
Meanwhile, the Football Association today confirmed that England will be based at the Solplay Hotel in Lisbon during UEFA EURO 2004™. The newly constructed hotel is less than five minutes' drive from the National stadium, England's training centre.
