Czech Republic 3-3 Sweden
The Czech Republic completed an unbeaten first year under coach Karel Brückner with an exciting friendly draw against Sweden in Teplice.
Attacks on top
Brückner, who had won seven and drawn two of his games since his January appointment, including victories in both the Czechs’ opening UEFA EURO 2004™ qualifiers, saw his side play out a game where the attacks were certainly on top, even though the Czechs were without playmaker Tomáš Rosický and striker Jan Koller.
Fukal on target
Milan Fukal, back in the Czech side after six months away, opened the scoring on eight minutes after getting to Karel Poborský's free-kick. However, Fukal’s Hamburger SV club-mate Tomás Ujfalusi was forced off soon afterwards after suffering a head wound in a collision with Sweden’s Marcus Allbäck.
Nilsson double
The Czechs struggled in defence without Ujfalusi, and Mikael Nilsson - given his debut after an impressive season or Halmstads BK - took full advantage, putting his side ahead with goals on 29 and 43 minutes.
Vachousek levels
However, FK Teplice product Stepán Vachousek, back at his old home, levelled the scores just before the break from a well-struck free-kick.
Baroš levels
Liverpool FC striker Milan Baroš, on form since his impressive performance for the Czechs in their successful UEFA European Under-21 Championship campaign in May, then headed the home team ahead in the 63rd minute from Zdenek Grygera's cross.
Late leveller
But Allbäck equalised within two minutes to give Sweden a draw – the same result as in both their EURO 2004™ matches so far, against group leaders Latvia and Hungary.
