Article body
Former Italian international Giuseppe Dossena has resigned as coach of the Albanian national team after just four months in charge.
World Cup experience
Dossena, who was assistant to Paraguay coach Cesare Maldini at the FIFA World Cup in Korea/Japan, had replaced Sulejaman Demollari, who was sacked after Albania's 2-0 defeat by Andorra last April.
Libya link
A World Cup winner with Italy in 1982, he has been linked with the vacant post of Libyan national team, as a possible replacement for Franco Scoglio, another Italian.
Russia defeat
Explaining his decision, Dossena cited the media criticism he received after the 4-1 defeat by Russia in Albania's second UEFA EURO 2004™ qualifying match. They had opened their Group 10 campaign with a 1-1 draw against Switzerland.
Dossena CV
It is also understood he was reluctant to base himself in Albania for the entire 16 months of his contract to follow the domestic game there. Dossena, whose playing career included spells with Torino Calcio, Udinese Calcio, Bologna FC and Sampdoria UC player, has also coached Ghana.
