Croatia were not lucky with the draw as I consider Group D – which also includes Spain, Czech Republic and Turkey – as the most difficult section in the tournament. I still believe Croatia have enough talent to go a long way in France.
The class of midfielders like Luka Modrić and Ivan Rakitić can inspire Ante Čačić's side to score plenty of goals. Mario Mandžukić – the lone striker in Croatia's probable 4-2-3-1 formation – could certainly benefit more than anybody from the creativity in midfield but goals could also come from winger Ivan Perišić, who has the impressive strike rate of 13 goals in 47 games with his national team.
The former Wolfsburg star has shined in his first season in Italy, contributing seven Serie A goals to Internazionale and confirming all his well-known qualities: strength, pace and most of all ability with both feet.
That makes him very difficult to defend against, as he can cut in from the right to shoot or send in dangerous crosses with his left foot. And bear in mind goals and assists from a midfielder are not so easy to find.
