My Magic Moment: Davor Šuker's EURO '96 chip

Next summer will mark 20 years since the goal former Croatia striker Davor Šuker will never forget – THAT lob over Peter Schmeichel at EURO '96.

Croatia were already two to the good in their group stage game at Hillsborough when Denmark goalkeeper Schmeichel made an ill-advised foray forward. Croatia counterattacked upon regaining possession. Šuker, still 30 metres from goal, collected a pinpoint crossfield pass from Aljoša Asanović before cutting in from the left and lobbing delightfully over the Denmark No1.

"For me, it's that first idea that comes into my mind and I want to pursue it – even if it is more difficult or technically more demanding," Šuker recalls. "Perhaps you think, in that millisecond you have, that it won't work … but an attacking player, someone who is confident, someone who does it in training, who would do that at any time, that was the first choice for me."
