SNCF in training for EURO

SNCF, the official national transport partner for UEFA EURO 2016, has been hard at work getting ready for next summer's European footballing extravaganza.

So far nearly 250 extra TGVs have been scheduled as part of new or revised timetables – enabling fans and visitors to arrive in their host cities any time from midday on the eve of their matches until three hours before kick-off, and then to depart on night trains immediately after their games or up until midday the following day. In addition, more than 200 local trains will be made available to complement the inter-regional offering, mostly boosting post-match and late services. In the Ile de France region, transport to both stadiums has been extended to the absolute maximum.

In order to offer the best possible network for supporters, SNCF is scheduling nearly 900 EURO 2016 TGV services – which includes both regular and extra services. Train tickets will be on sale from 22 September for services connected to matches between the quarter-finals and the final as well as France's three group games, while tickets related to all other fixtures will become available from 15 December once the final tournament draw has been made.

To have all possible tracks at its disposal, SNCF will postpone until after the EURO any night-time maintenance work that would otherwise have affected this period, while safety work on TGV tracks has been brought forward to make sure that all trains run on time during what are certain to be the busiest weeks of the year. SNCF is committed to providing at least one TGV in Paris plus local trains after every match.

In addition to the existing deals involving the TGV, Intercités and TER brands, SNCF is going to extend its range of special passes – IDTGV, OUIGO (for trains), OUIBUS (for buses), or IDVROOM or OUICAR (for cars/car-shares) – across the entire network in order to facilitate a true door-to-door service for fans and visitors. SNCF's international brands –  Eurostar, Thalys and Lyria – will reinforce their services too as soon as the finals draw has taken place.

SNCF is also working hard to enhance the accessibility and the hospitality of 22 train stations situated close to the host stadiums in order to better welcome and assist all travelling supporters. As many as 2,000 SNCF EURO 2016 volunteers will be on hand at these stations.
