Leonid Slutski will continue as Russia coach until the end of UEFA EURO 2016 after extending his contract with the Russian Football Union (RFS) following a successful finish to qualification.
The 44-year-old – also head coach at Russian Premier League leaders CSKA Moskva – took charge on 7 August, replacing Fabio Capello who left by mutual consent after picking up only eight points from the national team's opening six European Qualifiers. With Slutski at the helm, Russia won their remaining four games to advance to the finals in France behind Austria in Group G.
"The RFS thanks CSKA Moskva for their positive position in this crucial matter for the Russian national side," said a statement from the governing body.
RFS president Vitaly Mutko added: "In football, results are all that matters and I believe this team will achieve good results. We are happy with Slutski's work and we've reached an agreement with CSKA. The coach is happy to continue too. After EURO 2016 we will talk about the coach who will prepare the team for our home World Cup."
