Allen Bula's team played their first international in November and got off to a fine start, drawing 0-0 with Slovakia. The lack of a suitable stadium in a country of around 30,000 citizens means that Gibraltar will hold their home qualifiers in the Algarve region of southern Portugal.
Also in Pot 6 are Andorra, the tiny land-locked nation in the Pyrenees, plus the Faroe Islands, Kazakhstan, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malta and San Marino. None of the eight sides have ever qualified for a major tournament.
