The Swedish Football Association (SvFF) has appointed former national coach Lars Lagerbäck as its new technical adviser.
Lagerbäck will work part time for the SvFF on a one-year contract. Mikael Santoft, SvFF general secretary, said: "Lars Lagerbäck has unique experience. Swedish football needs to develop and review many aspects, not least at elite level. We're delighted to have Lars join us for this job."
The 62-year-old was Tommy Söderberg's Sweden assistant before taking joint charge in time for UEFA EURO 2000, the first of five consecutive final tournaments reached by Lagerbäck, who took the sole helm in 2004. "It's an important, necessary and very interesting assignment," Lagerbäck said. "Moreover I will be available for consultation when it comes to other educational matters, in which I have international experience from UEFA's Jira Panel."
Having left the national job in 2009 and led Nigeria at last year's FIFA World Cup finals, the former Kilafors IF, Arbrå BK, Hudiksvalls ABK and Sweden Under-21 coach added: "If an offer to coach comes in in the near future, I will discuss it with my employer, the SvFF."
