Răzvan Lucescu has stepped down as coach of Romania following Friday's 3-0 victory against Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Romania are third in UEFA EURO 2012 qualifying Group D having won two, drawn two and lost two of their six qualifying fixtures. Razvan met with the Romanian Football Federation (FRF) president Mircea Sandu on Saturday morning and both parties agreed to terminate his contract.
Lucescu leaves his post almost two years to the day since his first match in charge, having started his reign with a 1-0 win against Lithuania in 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifying. His assistant, Stefan Iovan, alongside Under-21 coach Emil Sandoi, will take temporary charge of the team for Tuesday's friendly against Brazil and Saturday's encounter with Paraguay.
