Article body
Spain's hopes of qualifying for UEFA EURO 2008™ received another blow when striker Fernando Torres was ruled out of their Group F match in Denmark as well as Wednesday's friendly in Finland.
Training blow
The Liverpool FC striker suffered a small muscle tear in his right leg during training on Friday in Aarhus and will undergo tests to investigate the injury further. Team doctor Genaro Borras indicated that, subject to the results from the assessment, Torres will be unavailable for eight to ten days. The news is a further setback for coach Luis Aragonés who is already missing Valencia CF forward David Villa, Spain's top scorer in qualifying, due to an ankle injury.
Tamudo chance
Without his two main strikers, the coach may be forced to throw late call-up Raul Tamudo in to the action. Spain lie second in the group, level on points with leaders Sweden but having played a game more. Northern Ireland are three points further behind and Denmark five, with a game in hand, with both also harbouring thoughts of reaching next year's finals.
