Lennon in doubt for Wembley dates

Tottenham Hotspur FC winger Aaron Lennon will struggle to be fit for England's UEFA EURO 2008™ qualifiers against Israel and Russia next month after having surgery on a knee injury.

'No reaction'
Tottenham manager Martin Jol said on Thursday that the winger will not resume training until the end of August having already missed the London club's pre-season preparations. "Aaron had a small tear in his knee and had an operation on the outside of his cartilage," Jol said. "We knew he would be out for three months and he has already been out for eight weeks. Hopefully he will be back in training at the end of August. He had no reaction and is moving on and doing conditioning work with the coaches."

Terry a doubt
Lennon, 20, will sit out the start of the Premier League season – Tottenham visit promoted Sunderland AFC on Saturday – and the Wembley friendly against Germany on 22 August. If he returns on schedule, he will have only a week to prove his fitness before England welcome Group E rivals Israel and Russia and 8 and 12 September respectively. Central defender and captain John Terry is also a doubt with damaged knee ligaments. England are fourth in Group E, three points adrift of leaders Croatia and Israel and one behind the Russians.
