Europa Conference League highlights: Spurs edge thriller as Roma survive scare

Antonio Conte's Tottenham and Roma were both pushed all the way as their less-celebrated opponents threatened repeats of their shock victories in the reverse fixtures on Matchday 3, but LASK, Maccabi Tel-Aviv and Qarabağ had more to celebrate.

Roma 2-2 Bodø/Glimt

The Norwegian side were six minutes away from following up their stunning 6-1 victory at home to Roma a fortnight ago with a win in Italy before Roger Ibañez nodded in the leveller in a desperate late push. Ola Solbakken's sublime first-time curler had put the visitors ahead before the break and Stephan El Shaarawy responded with a lovely strike of his own not long after it. Erik Botheim's header then put the visitors back in front, and another famous win was on the cards before Roger Ibañez intervened.

Key stat: Botheim has contributed three goals and four assists in four group stage outings.

Tottenham 3-2 Vitesse

A rollercoaster first match in charge for new Spurs boss Conte. Tottenham raced into a 3-0 lead inside 28 minutes thanks to strikes from Heung-Min Son, Lucas Moura and Jacob Rasmussen's own goal. The Vitesse defender soon scored at the right end, though, and Matúš Bero further reduced the arrears before the break. Spurs' woes grew when Cristiano Romero was dismissed for a second bookable offence on the hour, but the visitors ended with nine men as skipper Danilho Doekhi and goalkeeper Markus Schubert were both sent off late on.

Key stat: Son has scored the first goal under each of Tottenham's last three permanent managers.

Best of the rest

• Gent could have become the first side through to the last 16 but were denied a fourth win at home to nearest Group B rivals Partizan.
• Feyenoord opened up a four-point lead atop Group E while Copenhagen leapfrogged opponents PAOK to the summit of Group F.
• The top two are beyond reach in Group H, where Qarabağ are two points clear of second-placed Basel with two games to play. Their Matchday 6 meeting in Switzerland could be decisive.
• There is a Matchday 5 showdown in store for the joint Group A leaders as Maccabi Tel-Aviv and LASK ensured their European campaigns will stretch into the new year with wins.
• Japanese youngster Keito Nakamura struck both goals for LASK against Alashkert, while Englishman André Green was also at the double as Slovan Bratislava won in Gibraltar.
