The knockout rounds of the UEFA Champions League come into focus on Matchday 4 when a number of sides look to confirm their progress from the group stage in the second of back-to-back ties between section rivals.

Barcelona impress
Only FC Barcelona still boast a perfect record after their 5-0 rout of FC Basel 1893 in Switzerland on 22 October, and another win against Christian Gross's men will take them through should FC Shakhtar Donetsk lose or draw at Sporting Clube de Portugal in Tuesday's other Group C game. Barcelona were one of three teams to score five on their travels last time out, although they were not the week's biggest scorers – that accolade went to Villarreal CF who won 6-3 at home to Aalborg BK in Group E. Villarreal and holders Manchester United FC have dominated that pool, and both will advance on Wednesday should results go their way in reverse fixtures against AaB and Celtic FC respectively.

Undefeated
United and Villarreal are two of 13 sides still undefeated, with all English and German clubs yet to lose. Chelsea FC are in command of Group A ahead of their return match in Italy against AS Roma, who appear to be in a three-way battle with FC Girondins de Bordeaux and CFR 1907 Cluj for second spot. Bordeaux rekindled their hopes by overcoming CFR on Matchday 3 and the Romanian team will attempt to turn the tables in Transylvania on Tuesday.

Simão strike
Only a late Simão strike for Club Atlético de Madrid denied Liverpool FC a third straight win in Group D, yet the 1-1 draw at the Vicente Calderón did not dampen either side's ambitions. Both PSV Eindhoven and Olympique de Marseille, who meet at the Stade Vélodrome, have a mountain to climb to catch the section pacesetters who collide again at Anfield. Also on Tuesday, FC Internazionale Milano will progress with victory at Anorthosis Famagusta FC in Group B, where Werder Bremen and Panathinaikos FC are chasing second position after an entertaining 2-2 draw in Athens.

Arsenal pacesetters
The big game on Wednesday sees Real Madrid CF host Juventus in Group H, bidding to avenge their 2-1 reverse in Turin, while FC BATE Borisov host FC Zenit St. Petersburg aiming to tighten their grip on third place. It will be with some trepidation that Fenerbahçe SK visit London to face Group G leaders Arsenal FC, who are the competition's joint-highest scorers with Barcelona on ten goals, following their 5-2 thrashing of the Turkish team two weeks ago. Another triumph, combined with FC Dynamo Kyiv seeing off bottom side FC Porto, would take Arsène Wenger's men through. FC Bayern München will confirm their knockout-stage berth from Group F should they beat ACF Fiorentina for a second time. Olympique Lyonnais fans will also hope for more of the same as FC Steaua Bucureşti arrive at the Stade de Gerland smarting from a 5-3 loss to the French champions on 21 October.
