FC Internazionale Milano have confirmed their Argentinian international centre-back Walter Samuel damaged cruciate ligaments in his left knee during the 2-1 win against AC Milan on Sunday.

Carried off
Samuel was carried off on a stretcher after 37 minutes of the Milan derby and was replaced by Marco Materazzi. After the game he underwent tests which confirmed the extent of his injury. The 29-year-old will spend the Christmas period back in Argentina wearing a plaster before returning to Milan to undergo surgery. Inter have not yet announced how long he is expected to be out of action for but there is a chance he will be sidelined for the rest of the season.

Growing injury list
The former AS Roma and Real Madrid CF player has made 12 appearances in Serie A and five in the UEFA Champions League this season. He joins Patrick Vieira, Olivier Dacourt, Francesco Toldo, Luís Figo and Dejan Stanković on Inter's injury list. The Nerazzurri will face Liverpool FC in the UEFA Champions League first knockout round.
