Arsenal are in a dominant position in their UEFA Champions League round of 16 tie against PSV Eindhoven, welcoming the Dutch champions to London holding a 7-1 advantage.

Goals from Jurriën Timber (18), Ethan Nwaneri (21) – the 17-year-old becoming the third-youngest player to find the net in the Champions League knockout rounds – and Mikel Merino (31) put the Gunners in charge in Eindhoven on 4 March. Noa Lang's 42nd-minute penalty reduced PSV's arrears, but they had no answer to second-half strikes from Martin Ødegaard (47, 73), Leandro Trossard (48) and Riccardo Calafiori (85) as Arsenal became the first team to score seven in an away knockout Champions League game.

The 2022 defeat in Eindhoven is Arsenal's only loss in their last ten games against Dutch clubs (W6 D3).

Arsenal are unbeaten in their last nine home matches against Dutch clubs, last season's win against PSV making it four successive victories.

PSV were 3-2 winners at home to Liverpool on Matchday 8; the 2-0 home win against Arsenal in 2022 is PSV's only other victory in their last 11 games against English clubs (D4 L5); they have won only five of the last 28 (D9 L14).

Arsenal had only two goals in four games in all competitions (W1 D1 L2) before becoming the first team to score seven in a Champions League away knockout game at PSV.

The Gunners drew 1-1 at Manchester United on Sunday, making it three Premier League games without a win (D2 L1) and leaving them 15 points behind leaders Liverpool.

A 0-1 home defeat by West Ham on 22 February ended Arsenal's 15-match unbeaten Premier League run (W10 D5), since losing by the same scoreline at Newcastle on 2 November.

Gabriel Martinelli came on on Sunday having been out since suffering a thigh problem on 5 February.

On 12 February Arsenal confirmed Kai Havertz is expected to miss the rest of the season after suffering a hamstring injury in training.

Bukayo Saka has been sidelined by a hamstring injury on 21 December.

Gabriel Jesus is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines after damaging the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee in the FA Cup defeat by Manchester United on 12 January.

Takehiro Tomiyasu has been out since 5 October due to a knee injury.

PSV claimed their third win in ten games in all competitions (D3 L4) on Saturday, beating Heerenveen 2-1 in Eindhoven.

PSV have suffered three defeats in their last ten Eredivisie matches – as many as in the previous 71 (W58 D10).

The Dutch champions won their first ten Eredivisie games this season and 14 of the first 15 (L1) but have managed only three victories in the subsequent ten.

Peter Bosz's side had lost three successive games in all competitions – their longest run of defeats since March-April 2014 – before beating Heerenveen.

Mauro Júnior started on Saturday having missed the previous three games.

Sergiño Dest made his first appearance this season as a substitute on Saturday having recovered from a knee injury sustained in May.

Ricardo Pepi is unlikely to play again this season after surgery on a knee injury suffered against Liverpool on Matchday 8.

Malik Tillman has been out since suffering "a serious ankle injury" in a 5-4 Dutch Cup win against Excelsior on 14 January.

The first-leg loss to Arsenal was only the fourth time in PSV's history they had lost by a six-goal margin, and the first at home.
