Matchday 3 captaincy candidates come under consideration as UEFA.com picks out some options for managers on #UCLfantasy, presented by Playstation, with Dušan Vlahović, Bukayo Saka, Ademola Lookman and Erling Haaland among the leading contenders.
TUESDAY 22 OCTOBER
Dušan Vlahović (€8.0m) vs Stuttgart (H)
Juventus have begun the league phase with two wins from two, and should they make it three in a row against Stuttgart on Matchday 3, then there is a strong chance that Vlahović will playing a prominent role. After an assist in the 3-1 victory against PSV Eindhoven, Vlahović scored twice on Matchday 2 against Leipzig on his way to the Player of the Match award. Together with his goalscoring exploits in Serie A, the Serbian has now struck five times in his last three appearances in all competitions, meaning the 6%-owned striker holds captaincy potential on Matchday 3.
Bukayo Saka (€9.0m) vs Shakhtar Donetsk (H)
There are few Fantasy midfielders who can match Saka for consistency of returns. The Arsenal man has either scored or provided an assist in six of his seven Premier League games this season – nine attacking returns in total – and was also on target in the 2-0 win against Paris Saint-Germain on Matchday 2. Still in only 8% of Fantasy teams, Saka holds strong appeal as something of a differential captain on Matchday 3, when the Gunners entertain Shakhtar Donetsk, who have one point from their first two games and have lost seven of their nine matches in England.
Other options: Christian Pulišić (€7.5m), Jude Bellingham (€9.0m), Viktor Gyökeres (€7.6m)
WEDNESDAY 23 OCTOBER
Ademola Lookman (€6.5m) vs Celtic (H)
After 14 points on Matchday 2, Lookman represents an enticing captaincy choice with Atalanta at home to a Celtic side that conceded seven goals at Dortmund last time out. Lookman's Matchday 2 haul came courtesy of a goal, assist and the Player of the Match award against Shakhtar, and his Fantasy owners will be hoping for a similar output this time around. Lookman's last ten club appearances going back to last season have brought eight goals and four assists, including his hat-trick in the UEFA Europa League final.
Erling Haaland (€11.0m) vs Sparta Praha (H)
Given that he remains the highest-owned Fantasy forward by some distance, Haaland is sure to be a popular captain choice on Matchday 3, when Manchester City entertain Sparta Praha. After ten goals in his opening seven games of the 2024/25 Premier League, the Norwegian recently became his country’s all-time top goalscorer at the age of just 24 and has struck 42 times in 41 Champions League appearances, including in a 4-0 victory at Slovan Bratislava last time out.
Other options: Jeremie Frimpong (€5.6m), Mohamed Salah (€10.0m), Marcus Thuram (€7.5m)
