Paris Saint-Germain will look to get their UEFA Champions League campaign back on track as they welcome a PSV Eindhoven side still looking for their first win of the league phase.

The French champions needed a 90th-minute own goal to beat debutants Girona at the Parc des Princes on Matchday 1 before going down 2-0 at Arsenal in their second fixture. PSV have also suffered an away defeat, 3-1 at Juventus on the opening night, but got off the mark with a 1-1 home draw against Sporting CP last time out.

This is the first meeting between the clubs, and just Paris's fourth game against a team from Netherlands.

Form guide

Paris Saint-Germain

Record vs Dutch clubs: W2 D1 L0 F8 A2
Home record vs Dutch clubs W2 D0 L0

Paris have won both home games against Dutch teams, beating Twente 4-0 in the 2008/09 UEFA Cup group stage and Ajax 3-1 in the 2014/15 Champions League group stage.

A 1-1 draw at Ajax on Matchday 1 in 2014/15 is their only other game against Eredivisie opponents.

This is Paris's 17th campaign in the Champions League proper, setting a new French record; they had previously been level with Lyon. They have featured every season since 2012/13, reaching the knockout stages in all 12 of those most recent campaigns.

Runners-up to Bayern München in the 2020 final, Les Parisiens were second in their section behind Borussia Dortmund last season. They beat Spanish pair Real Sociedad (4-1 aggregate) and Barcelona (6-4 aggregate) in the round of 16 and quarter-finals respectively, but came up short against Dortmund again in the last four, losing 1-0 in both legs.

The French side have lost in the last 16 in five of their last eight campaigns.

The Parisians have won 15 of their last 35 European matches (D7 L13).

The second-leg defeat by Dortmund in last season's semi-finals is one of only nine losses in Paris's last 76 European home games (W48 D19), although seven have come in their last 26 matches at the Parc des Princes.

Paris claimed their 12th French title, and tenth in the last 12 seasons, in 2023/24 and lifted the Coupe de France for the 15th time to complete a fifth domestic double.

PSV Eindhoven

Record vs French clubs: W11 D16 L11 F37 A40
Away record vs French clubs: W2 D10 L7

PSV drew 1-1 at Lens in last season's group stage, winning 1-0 at home.

The draw at Lens was PSV's fourth in succession in France, since a 3-0 group stage loss at Marseille in November 2008. That is one of only two defeats in their last 12 away games against Ligue 1 opponents (W2 D8).

A 2-1 home reverse against Monaco in the 2021/22 Europa League group stage is PSV's only defeat in eight games with French teams, home and away (W3 D4).

This is PSV's 18th appearance in the Champions League proper – level with Ajax's Dutch record – and a second in succession.

The Eindhoven club returned to the group stage last season for the first time since 2018/19, finishing second behind Arsenal in Group B only to lose out to eventual finalists Borussia Dortmund in the round of 16 (1-1 h, 0-2 a).

That was PSV's first knockout appearance since 2015/16, and just the fifth time they had progressed beyond the initial Champions League group stage.

The 1-0 home victory against Lens on Matchday 4 last season ended PSV's 15-game run without a win in the Champions League group stage, since a 2-1 defeat of CSKA Moskva on Matchday 6 in 2015/16.

A 3-2 Matchday 5 win in Seville last season is PSV's only success in their last 18 away matches in the Champions League proper (D5 L12), going back to a 1-0 victory at CSKA on 27 November 2007.

The Eindhoven side have won five of their last 16 European away games, losing five.

This is the first time PSV have qualified directly for the Champions League proper since 2016/17.

Having finished second in the Eredivisie for three successive seasons, PSV claimed their first league title since 2017/18. Peter Bosz's side won 29 of their 34 league games, losing only one, their final tally of 91 points eclipsing Ajax's previous record of 89 set in 1997/98.
