Champions League Fantasy: How it works

Goalkeepers

Injury to Marc-André ter Stegen – who is €6.0m on Fantasy, the top price for goalkeepers – opens the door for Fantasy managers to select his more budget-friendly replacement at Barcelona, Iñaki Peña (€4.5m). The Spanish side are at home to Young Boys on Matchday 2 as they look for their first points of this season's competition.

Also in familiar surroundings in the second round of league phase games is Liverpool's Alisson Becker (€6.0m), whose team take on Bologna at Anfield. The Reds were victorious at another Italian side, AC Milan, in their opener, and have conceded only two goals in their first six Premier League matches.

Defenders

Those favourable home fixtures for Barcelona and Liverpool mean both are also represented among the back four. The budget pick Pau Cubarsí (€4.5m) has started seven of Barcelona's eight Liga games this season and also featured on Matchday 1, while Ibrahima Konaté (€5.5m) is chosen after scoring in the Premier League on Saturday.

Leverkusen wing-backs Jeremie Frimpong and Alejandro Grimaldo (€5.5m) both scored 12 points on Matchday 1 and the latter is selected again for the home game against AC Milan. Also retaining his place is Rico Lewis (€4.5m), a cheap way into the Manchester City back line for their trip to a Slovan Bratislava side that conceded five on Matchday 1, while Ferland Mendy (€5.0m) fulfils a similar function as Real Madrid go to LOSC Lille.

Midfielders

The headline signing in midfield is Mohamed Salah (€10.0m), who has four goals and four assists in this season's Premier League, and struck in Saturday's win. Michael Olise (€6.5m) returns to England as Bayern München visit Aston Villa, the winger having struck five times in his last four appearances including two goals on Matchday 1. Florian Wirtz (€7.5m) justified his high ownership with 18 points in the opening fixture and has four goals and an assist in the Bundesliga this season.

Orkun Kökçü (€6.0m) has two goals and two assists in his last four appearances for Benfica, who are at home to Atlético de Madrid on Matchday 2. Salzburg, meanwhile, will look to bounce back from a heavy opening defeat as they take on debutants Brest, with Oscar Gloukh (€6.0m) having scored twice in their weekend win.

Forwards

He may have drawn a blank at the weekend for the first time in this season's Premier League but ten goals in five league matches mean Erling Haaland (€11.0m) again warrants inclusion as Manchester City visit Slovakia. Another forward in form is Robert Lewandowski (€9.5m), who has seven goals in eight La Liga appearances this season and will look to open his Champions League account for 2024/25 as Barcelona take on Young Boys.

Serhou Guirassy (€7.5m) struck 28 times for Stuttgart in last season's Bundesliga and has four in his last three for new side Borussia Dortmund. The striker came off the bench to crown the Matchday 1 win at Club Brugge and has struck in both subsequent Bundesliga games ahead of the visit of Celtic.
