eChampions League 2024 Group stage: Three things we learned

Europe's finest FC players were in London over the weekend, hoping to take another step towards claiming the eChampions League trophy.

eChampions League 2024: Group stage review

EA SPORTS FC fans were treated to an incredible weekend of action as the eChampions League 2024 Group stage took place in London, England.

It would be an understatement to say that the competition started off with a bang as every game had its fair share of drama and incredible moments. Here are three key things that made this year's Group stage one to remember.

Favourites tumble

The eChampions League is known for providing plenty of shocks but this weekend saw some huge names crash out of the competition during the Group stage.

The ePremier League 2024 champion Tekkz failed to register a win in Group A, losing games to Ekmenn94 and Neat en route to his early exit. Many pegged the talented Manchester City player to have a big run in the competition, but he could not find his rhythm.

It was even more shocking to see eChampions League 2022 winner Nicolas99fc get knocked out of the tournament. The Argentinian won just one of his four games, losing to Hamrun Spartans FC's Brandsha and RB Leipzig's Levyfinn.

eDivisie dominates

FC players competing in The Netherlands had a fantastic showing over the weekend. PHzin, Manu Bachoore, Emre Yilmaz and Levi de Weerd all topped their groups with the first three doing so with a 100% record.

It was slightly more difficult for Levi de Weerd as the Ajax player had the same number of points as AndoniiPM and HHezerS. However, his superior goal difference ensured all four Dutch players made it through to the next stage of the competition.

Marley's miracle

Brighton & Hove Albion's Marley had it all to do in his final Group stage game, needing to defeat Nacho Abella by four goals to squeeze his way into third place.

Despite the odds being against him, Marley was able to secure a dramatic late-goal that locked in his spot in the Knockout stage.

It was a tremendous achievement for the ePremier League star, whose coaches erupted with happiness around him following his 6-2 victory.
