What do you need to know?
PSV boss Peter Bosz faces a reckoning with his past in the round of 16; the Dutchman left Ajax to take charge of BVB in June 2017 but lasted just six months, his side failing to win any of their six Champions League group stage games that autumn.
PSV have been on exceptional form in the Eredivisie – top and unbeaten since the start of the campaign – and will hope to improve on their only prior meetings with Dortmund: they lost 3-1 at home and drew 1-1 away in the 2002/03 first group stage. Edin Terzić's BVB, meanwhile, hope that Jadon Sancho's return to the club on loan from Manchester United will herald another run to the latter stages of Europe's top club competition.

Expert predictions
Derek Brookman, PSV reporter
Usually a new coach takes time to settle at the club, but Bosz has redefined the term 'hitting the ground running'. A Dutch record-equalling 17 straight wins from the start of the Eredivisie, and remaining undefeated thereafter, has taken them ten points clear of champions Feyenoord. Add to that a five-match unbeaten streak in the Champions League, and you can see why the Eindhoven side are justifiably confident of progressing to the quarter-finals.
Matthias Rötters, Dortmund reporter
In the Champions League season so far, BVB have shown their top form and finished top of perhaps the most difficult group with Paris, Milan and Newcastle. This is a significant reason why Dortmund are now favourites for the clash with the Dutch league leaders. It is a role that the Black and Yellows feel they should fulfil over two games, especially because their injury situation is more comfortable than it has been for a long time. Only the long-term absentee Felix Nmecha is not an option against PSV.
What the coaches say
Peter Bosz, PSV coach: "Dortmund can counterattack well and they also have the players with the ability to deploy a good positional game. Johan Bakayoko trained with the team yesterday so he is definitely on the right track. I hope the crowd will get behind the team from the first whistle."
Edin Terzić, Dortmund coach: "We have great respect for PSV. They are very fast, strong at dribbling and create plenty of opportunities. To possess all of this you need a good plan, good players and self-confidence, which they have. I'm fundamentally an optimist, and we will need both possession of the ball and counterattacking football to succeed on Tuesday."
