GOALKEEPERS

There is no doubting who the star performer was among goalkeepers on Matchday 3, with André Onana (€5.9m) producing a 12-point return in Manchester United's 1-0 home win against Copenhagen. Onana's contribution was critical, the Cameroon international saving a penalty deep into added time to ensure his side claimed all three points.

Also saving from the spot on Matchday 3 was Celtic's Joe Hart (€4.6m), who earned the penalty save points despite the fact that Antoine Griezmann converted the rebound. That was Hart's second spot-kick save in this season's Champions League, after his stop at Feyenoord on Matchday 1.

Gianluigi Donnarumma (€6.0m), Gregor Kobel (€5.0m), Alex Meret (€4.9m) and Álex Remiro (€4.0m) all kept clean sheets. The latter in particular may now start attracting attention from Fantasy managers, as that is now two consecutive shut-outs in the competition for Real Sociedad's budget-friendly asset.

Highlights: Leipzig 3-1 Crvena Zvezda

DEFENDERS

Once again, a Manchester United player tops the Fantasy charts with the 14 points managed by Harry Maguire (€4.5m) more than any other defender on Matchday 3. Maguire, who scored the only goal and made seven ball recoveries against Copenhagen, did not feature in the first two matchdays but is now back in favour.

Not far behind Maguire was David Raum (€4.5m), whose goal, seven ball recoveries and Player of the Match award earned him 13 Fantasy points as Leipzig won 3-1 at home to Crvena zvezda. Raum also recorded an assist on Matchday 1 and is quickly becoming a popular budget defender in Fantasy squads.

Dortmund's Nico Schlotterbeck (€5.5m) was the only other defender to reach double figures on Matchday 3, his clean sheet, assist and three ball recoveries at Newcastle resulting in ten points. Attacking returns were also a source of points for Manchester City duo Rúben Dias (€5.5m) and Manuel Akanji (€5.0m), who helped their side make it three wins from three at Young Boys.

Highlights: Barcelona 2-1 Shakhtar Donetsk

MIDFIELDERS

Ultra-differential Fermin Lopez (€4.4m) was the star midfielder on Matchday 3, the 20-year-old academy graduate earning a Player of the Match award thanks to a goal and assist in Barcelona's home victory over Shakhtar Donetsk. Another highly promising youngster, Warren Zaïre-Emery (€5.0m), recorded two assists and won the Player of the Match award in Paris Saint-Germain's 3-0 defeat of Milan.

In a similar mould, Xavi Simons (€6.5m) – on loan from Paris – amassed 12 points for Leipzig with a goal and an assist, justifying his status as one of the most highly-owned midfielders on Fantasy.

Jude Bellingham (€7.8m) scored in the first four matchdays of last season's Champions League group stage for Dortmund, and he is one game away from matching that at Real Madrid after finding the net again. The top scorer across all positions, Brais Méndez (€6.8m), also continued his excellent form with the only goal of Real Sociedad's win at Benfica.

Highlights: Antwerp 1-4 FC Porto

FORWARDS

The highest individual score of the matchday belonged to Evanilson (€6.9m), who scored the first hat-trick of this season's Champions League. The Porto striker, who features in a tiny percentage of Fantasy squads, duly earned the Player of the Match award in his 16-point haul.

Given the fact he has scored on all three matchdays to date, Arsenal forward Gabriel Jesus (€8.5m) is still largely overlooked and features in just 4% of squads. The Brazilian scored 12 points on Matchday 3, and has accumulated more Fantasy points overall than any other forward. One striker whose ownership is surely set to rise is Santiago Giménez (€7.5m), who marked his Champions League debut with two goals in Feyenoord's victory against Lazio. The Mexican earned 12 points as a result, two more than the highest-owned forward in Fantasy – Erling Haaland (€11.5m), who opened his 2023/24 account with two goals at Young Boys.

Harry Kane (€10.0m) was back among the points as Bayern inflicted Galatasaray's first defeat in any competition since April, while fellow premium forwards Vinícius Júnior (€11.0m) and Kylian Mbappé (€11.5m) recorded attacking returns for Real Madrid and Paris respectively.
