PSV Eindhoven will look for their impressive home form to revive their UEFA Champions League campaign after a heavy opening defeat in Group B, their second fixture pitting them against Sevilla.
The Dutch side's first group stage fixture in five years ended in a 4-0 defeat at Arsenal on Matchday 1, when UEFA Europa League holders Sevilla experienced frustration of their own as they were held 1-1 at home by Lens despite taking a ninth-minute lead through Lucas Ocampos.
PSV scored nine goals in their two qualifying fixtures in Eindhoven and have won their last five home European games – a run that includes a 2-0 defeat of Sevilla in last season's Europa League, although the Spanish side still progressed in the tie. Both teams have swapped coaches since then, with Peter Bosz now in charge of PSV and José Luis Mendilibar at the Sevilla reins.
Previous meetings
The side's only previous meetings came in February of this year.
Sevilla ended PSV's involvement in European competition in 2022/23 with a 3-2 aggregate win in the Europa League knockout play-offs, a team coached by Jorge Sampaoli doing the damage in the home first leg with a 3-0 victory thanks to a devastating burst of goals through Youssef En-Nesyri (45+2), Ocampos (50) and Nemanja Gudelj (55).
Ruud van Nistelrooy's PSV staged a late revival in Eindhoven thanks to goals from Luuk de Jong (77) and Fábio Silva (90+5) but were unable to find a third and lost Mauro Júnior to a red card after the final whistle.

Record vs Spanish clubs: W6 D13 L17 F35 A56
Home record vs Spanish clubs: W5 D8 L5
PSV have considerable experience against Spanish opposition in UEFA competition, but last season's second-leg win against Sevilla was just their sixth victory. Five of those wins have been on Dutch soil, but they were without a victory in their previous seven games against Spanish visitors in Eindhoven (D3 L4), losing three in a row before drawing 2-2 with Real Sociedad in the 2021/22 Europa League group stage.
The most recent of PSV's 16 Champions League group campaigns came in 2018/19, when they finished fourth in their section having collected only two points.
The Eindhoven club have lost three times in qualifying since then, including play-offs defeats at the hands of Benfica in 2021/22 (1-2 a, 0-0 h) and Rangers last season (2-2 a, 0-1 h).
PSV were second behind Arsenal in Europa League Group A in 2022/23 having transferred across from the Champions League, winning four of their six games, but eventual champions Sevilla ended their run in the knockout round play-offs despite that second-leg fightback.
Second in the Eredivisie for the third season in a row in 2022/23, finishing runners-up to Feyenoord after two campaigns behind Ajax, PSV kicked off this European campaign in the Champions League third qualifying round, sweeping past Sturm Graz (4-1 h, 3-1 a) with De Jong scoring three goals in the tie.
Beaten by Rangers in the 2022/23 play-offs, PSV turned the tables at the same stage this season, another 2-2 away draw in the first leg preceding a 5-1 home second-leg success in Eindhoven.
De Jong's second-leg header against Rangers made him the first player in PSV's history to score in five consecutive European matches. Willy van der Kuijlen, Ralf Edström, Gerrie Deijkers, Romário and Balázs Dzsudzsák had all scored in four European games in a row.
PSV have won their last five home European matches, scoring 18 goals; last season's defeat by Rangers is the only reverse in their last eight (W6 D1).
The Dutch club are without a win in their last seven home Champions League games, group stage to final (D3 L4), since a 2-1 defeat of CSKA Moskva on Matchday 6 in 2015/16.
That is also PSV's last win in the Champions League group stage; their record since is D4 L9.

Sevilla finished 12th in La Liga last season and were knocked out of the Copa del Rey at the quarter-final stage. It was their lowest Liga finish since 1999/2000, when they were relegated in bottom place.
