All four of UEFA.com's captaincy selections found the net on Matchday 3 and with Matchday 4 just around the corner, the next batch of armband contenders are under the spotlight on #UCLfantasy, presented by Playstation.
TUESDAY 11 OCTOBER
Erling Haaland (€11.1m) vs Copenhagen (A)
He may have only played the first 45 minutes on Matchday 3, but that was still enough time for Haaland to add his fourth and fifth goals of this season's competition. The Norwegian cannot stop scoring at the moment, and heads into the Matchday 4 return fixture against Copenhagen with 28 goals in 22 UEFA Champions League games – an average of a goal every 59 minutes. Manchester City and Copenhagen meet again in one of Tuesday's early kick-offs on Matchday 4, so #UCLFantasy managers can check whether Haaland is in the line-up before handing the prolific striker the captaincy.
Raphaël Guerreiro (€4.8m) vs Sevilla (H)
Should Haaland not feature on Matchday 4, or for those brave managers who want to go against the grain, then another Group G player represents an interesting alternative. Dortmund's attack-minded wing-back Guerreiro has already scored twice in Europe this season, against Copenhagen on the opening day and most recently at Sevilla on Matchday 3. Dortmund face the Spanish side once more on Matchday 4 and have kept clean sheets in three of their last four home UEFA Champions League games; that record combined with Guerreiro's attacking threat makes him an excellent differential captain.
WEDNESDAY 12 OCTOBER
Harry Kane (€10.5m) vs Frankfurt (H)
Another differential offering comes in the form of Tottenham frontman Kane, whose mere 2% ownership is hardly surprising considering the fact he is yet to register an attacking return in this season's UEFA Champions League. However, history tells us that goals are always just around the corner, and in an incredibly tight Group D, the Matchday 4 fixture against Frankfurt could be the perfect time for Kane to find his scoring boots. The England striker threatened to break the deadlock in the Matchday 3 fixture in Frankfurt and, having scored seven goals in the Premier League this season – second only to Haaland – his captaincy potential is obvious.
Leroy Sané (€9.2m) vs Plzeň (A)
As with Haaland, Sané was replaced early on Matchday 3, but by that time he had already racked up two goals and 12 #UCLfantasy points in Bayern's dominant 5-0 win at home to Plzeň. The winger has now scored in all three games this season, and coupled with his superb record in the 2021/22 UEFA Champions League, has become one of the most reliable Fantasy points scorers. With Bayern on maximum points in Group C, the only danger posed to Sané owners is if Julian Nagelsmann decides to rest him on Matchday 4. Given his incredible output, it could still be a risk worth taking.
