Who should be my UCL Fantasy Football captain for Matchday 4?

UEFA.com puts forward four contenders who have captain potential for the fourth round of games.

The UEFA Champions League is back after a three-week break which means #UCLfantasy managers have some key decisions to make ahead of Matchday 4.

Here’s a rundown of the top captaincy options across both days.

Pick your Fantasy captain for Matchday 4

TUESDAY 24 NOVEMBER

Highlights: Club Brugge 0-3 Borussia Dortmund

Erling Braut Haaland (€11.0m) vs Club Brugge (H)

Consistent returns is all any #UCLfantasy manager can ask for from their captain, and that is exactly what Haaland offers. The Norwegian, who unlike many of his peers did not feature for his country during the international period, will be raring to go when his Dortmund side face Club Brugge for the second UEFA Champions League game in a row. Haaland struck twice in Belgium and has scored in all three group games so far, so his credentials for the armband are without question. Dortmund are top of Group F and will want to wrap up qualification as quickly as possible, with Haaland the man most likely to provide the goals.

Cristiano Ronaldo (€12.0m) vs Ferencváros (H)

The all-time top scorer in the UEFA Champions League marked his first appearance in this season’s competition with an assist against Ferencváros on Matchday 3 but owners, and particularly those who choose him as captain, will be hoping for a more handsome return when the Hungarian side visit Turin for the reverse fixture. Ronaldo’s pedigree on the European stage needs little introduction but the fact that he missed the first two games coupled with his modest return last time out means his ownership level is significantly lower than in seasons gone by. As a result, captaining the Portuguese star would likely result in a significant rank rise if he puts up some big numbers on Matchday 4.

WEDNESDAY 25 NOVEMBER

Highlights: Man. City 3-0 Olympiacos

Ferrán Torres (€7.6m) vs Olympiacos (A)

Manchester City’s summer acquisition has gone somewhat under the radar in Fantasy circles given that he features in just 3% of teams, but a deeper look reveals a player begging for a spot in your team. Modestly priced and having scored in all three of City’s UEFA Champions League games so far, Torres presents himself as an enticing option and his viability as a captaincy candidate was enhanced by a stunning hat-trick for Spain against Germany in the UEFA Nations League on 17 November. In-form and featuring ever more frequently in Josep Guardiola’s starting line-up, Torres is worthy of careful consideration heading into his side’s Matchday 4 fixture at Olympiacos.

Diogo Jota (€7.5m) vs Atalanta (H)

Jota has enjoyed an excellent start to his Liverpool career since joining from Wolves in the summer and his crowning moment so far was undoubtedly his hat-trick against Atalanta on Matchday 3. Jürgen Klopp has managed to find a way of fitting Jota into an already fearsome Reds attack and that has certainly peaked the interests of #UCLfantasy managers, who have been quick to move for the 23-year-old. His ownership level still remains under 10% though, which for a player who is currently the joint top scorer in the competition, may be too good an opportunity to ignore. The confidence is surging through Jota right now and if he can score a treble against Atalanta away from home, who's to say he can’t do the same at Anfield?
