Fantasy Football Matchday 7 lessons: Forwards

Erling Braut Haaland and Robert Lewandowski continued to hit the net, although injury means the latter is likely to miss the second leg.

The UEFA Champions League might have switched from group games to knockout ties, but the top two scorers in this season's competition continued to find the net.

Erling Braut Haaland (€4.7m) has wasted no time at all getting up to speed at new club Borussia Dortmund, his two goals against Paris on Matchday 7 helping him pick up 11 #UCLfantasy points. The Norwegian striker has now recorded just one blank in his seven UEFA Champions League appearances this season.

Haaland is second only to Robert Lewandowski (€10.8m) in terms of both goals (10–11) and total #UCLfantasy points (55–65) this season, and the Bayern forward continued his record of finding the net in every UEFA Champions League appearance this season at Chelsea. However, his considerable ownership (42%) will need to look for a replacement on Matchday 8 in light of the news that he has been ruled out for four weeks with an injury picked up at Stamford Bridge.

Neymar (€11.4m) and Kylian Mbappé (€10.5m) could be two such replacements in the premium bracket after they both produced attacking returns on Matchday 7, or perhaps now could be the time to jump on Cristiano Ronaldo (€11.5m) or Lionel Messi (€11.5m). There was disappointment for their owners on Matchday 7 but Barcelona and Juventus both enjoy home advantage in the second legs and the two highest scorers in UEFA Champions League history will be determined to fire their respective sides into the quarter-finals.
