Salihamidzic blow for Bayern

FC Bayern München have been rocked by the news that Hasan Salihamidzic could be out for six months with a serious knee injury.

FC Bayern München could be handicapped for the remainder of their UEFA Champions League campaign by the absence of Hasan Salihamidzic, who faces up to six months out following a serious knee injury.

Injury list
The Bosnia-Herzegovnian international, who joins Mehmet Scholl and Jens Jeremies on the long-term injury list, tore both cruciate ligaments in his right knee after a tackle by Quinton Fortune during Tuesday’s second group stage encounter with Manchester United FC.

Operation in USA
After being diagnosed by team doctor Dr. Müller Wohlfarht, Salihamidzic is now set to travel to Colorado, USA to be operated on by Dr Richard Steadman, the man credited by many with saving former England captain Alan Shearer's career.

No imminent return
"It is incredibly bitter for Hasan and the team because he was in brilliant shape," said Bayern coach Ottmar Hitzfeld. "We wish him all the best and hope that he will be back before long."

Arthroscopical tests
Salihamidzic underwent arthroscopical tests for a torn meniscus last month but was able to make a comeback in the home clash against Hamburger SV just ten days later.
