Article body
Czech UEFA Champions League hopefuls FC Slovan Liberec have strengthened their squad with the signing of midfield player Jan Polák from 1. FC Brno.
Under-21 triumph
Polák, who won his first full cap in April 1999 one month after his 18th birthday and was a member of the Czech Republic side that won the UEFA European Under-21 Championship in May, has signed a four-year deal at the U Nisy stadium.
Champions League hopes
The player, who has joined Slovan for a fee believed to be in the region of €700,000, will be eligible for the first group stage of the Champions League, should his new club overcome Milan AC in their current third qualifying round tie, which the Italian side lead 1-0 going into the second leg in Liberec. Defeat would mean a place in the UEFA Cup for a team that remains unbeaten in the Czech first division this season.
'I need the change'
Explaining the reason for his move from the only club he has played for, Polák said: "I need the change and a new motivation. Playing in Europe will fulfil my dreams."
