Article body
Juventus FC striker David Trezeguet has been ruled out of Wednesday's UEFA Champions League quarter-final first-leg tie against FC Barcelona.
Shoulder injury
The Frenchman picked up a shoulder injury after falling awkwardly during Juve's 2-0 derby win over Torino Calcio on Saturday and the club said he would need seven to eight days of rest before he can begin a return to fitness. Trezeguet's season has been dogged by injuries but he had been hoping to renew his partnership with Alessandro Del Piero, who himself has just returned from injury.
Nedved doubt
Juve's Czech midfielder Pavel Nedved was also injured during a bruising derby which saw four red cards, but still has a chance of recovering from his thigh injury sustained after a strong challenge by Stefano Fattori. Nedved has been in outstanding form for Juventus this season and would be sorely missed if he was unable to face the Spaniards at the Stadio Delle Alpi.
'A real shame'
Juventus coach Marcello Lippi suggested after the match that Trezeguet's injury was the more serious, while Nedved was more likely to recover in time to face Barcelona. "I'm worried about injuries, Trezeguet won't be available, I hope to have Nedved back on pitch," he said. "It is a real shame. It seems every time we get players back from injury, something else happens."
