Africans take Rapid option

FC Rapid Bucuresti have strengthened their squad for the UEFA Champions League with two African signings.

Key signings
The Romanian champions have recruited 31-year-old Ghanaian goalkeeper Ibrahim Dossey from FC Brasov and 23-year-old Cameroonian striker Jeremy Njock from relegated Divizia A side FC UTA Arad. The two signings were important additions to the club's ranks 16 days before the start of their Champions League campaign - a second qualifying round game against Belgian side RSC Anderlecht.

Goalkeeping problems
Rapid goalkeeper Emilian Dolha is out of contention for that match after a clash with the club's directors over wages, and Dossey has been given the opportunity to take his place after also being tracked by FC Steaua Bucuresti and FC Dinamo Bucuresti.

Dossey signs
"They were the only clubs to show a concrete interest in me," said Dossey. "It didn't matter which of the three I played for because they are all big clubs." Meanwhile, Njock, who scored nine goals in Arad's relegation campaign, was eager to join Rapid. "They are the best team in Romania and play the most attractive football," he said. "Moreover, if you play in the capital, you get noticed by bigger clubs."
