No part to play
Munitis and his agent, Javier González, had been locked in talks with Madrid officials all summer about terminating the player's contract after it became clear he was not in new coach Carlos Queiroz's plans.
New challenge
The two parties finally reached an agreement on Thursday, with Munitis being free to leave the club. The 28-year-old was immediately snapped up by Deportivo, subject to a medical.
Freedom of choice
Madrid sporting director Jorge Valdano said: "He [Munitis] has received his freedom and is now in complete control of his destiny. He will go to Deportivo and we will save money on his salary."
Second signing
Munitis is Deportivo's second summer signing after they picked up goalkeeper Gustavo Munúa from Uruguay's Club Nacional de Football. The former Real Racing Club Santander player can operate in attack or in midfield. He joined Madrid in 2000/01 but spent last season back at Racing on loan.
